Week of August 29-September 2, 2011

6th- This week the students will be exploring Mesopotamia and discovering what the early civilations looked like.

Week of August 22-26, 2011

8th - This week the students are completing a Revolutionary War Internet Scavenger Hunt. The link to this site can be found here.

Week of August 15-19, 2011

6th - This year, 6th grade social studies focuses on World History. This week, we will review pre 1500 America and then the students will create a timeline based on the information they gathered last week. 

7th - Our study will further delve into the development and colonization of the New World, concentrating on the expansion of the English colonies and desire for colonist seeking religious freedom and economic opportunities. 

8th - This week the students will be discussing the Boston Massacre as well as the Intolerable Acts. Please be sure to ask your child about their Stamp Act project from last week!

Week of August 8-12, 2011

6th - This year, 6th grade social studies focuses on World History. This week, we will review the early Americas and then dive into early civilizations throughout the world.  We will focus on how cultures and civilations start and what attracts them to certain areas.  

7th - We will begin our year's study with a quick review of the discovery and settling of the New World, formal colonization and the fight for freedom.  We will conclude the week with the development of a democratic government and the creatation of the Constitution.  Additionally we will delve into the continued legalization of slavery and the ramifications of omitting freedom for the slaves in the ratified Constitution.

8th - This week the students will be learning about the Tea Act and the Stamp Act. Students are encouraged to bring in tea to drink on Monday and Tuesday. I have also challenged them to collect used stamps to bring in for a project; the more stamps the better.
